Responsible play

Signs that play has stopped being fun

Most people play for the small thrill of a number on the board. For some it quietly becomes something else. The signs to look for, and what to do if you recognise them.

The signs

Spending more than you planned, more often. Playing to win back money you have lost. Thinking about the draw when you would rather be doing something else. Hiding how much you spend from people close to you. Borrowing, or using money meant for bills, to play.

It can happen to anyone

None of these is a sign of weakness. Games of chance are built around a feeling that can be hard to walk away from, and it is common to slip past the point where play is still fun without noticing. Recognising it is the hard part, and you have already done that if a sign above sounds familiar.

What you can do today

Take a break with a time-out, or a longer one with self-exclusion, from Responsible play in the app. Lower your deposit limits. Withdraw what is in your wallet so it is not there to spend. Tell someone you trust how much you have been playing.

Help outside the app

Talking to someone helps. Organisations such as Gamblers Anonymous run free, confidential meetings in many countries, and many countries have a national gambling helpline. Our support team can walk you through setting a time-out or self-exclusion, and will not ask why.

Play the next draw
